One of the joys of producing the Poe Film Festival and its College Film Awards is to provide a platform for our intensely creative college filmmakers to express their world on film. In 2017, we discovered a gem of a filmmaker at a small university on the other side of the Shenandoah.
Talula Mays, then a junior at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, wowed our judges with a short experimental film, “Delicacy.” She took home our first trophy for Best Artistic Film. Talula was supportive of our young film festival and acted as an emcee at our first High School Film Showcase in 2018, earning her an instant place in Poe Film Festival lore.
This year, for our fourth festival, Talula is creating amazing graphic designs incorporating our 2020 theme, “The Vision of Poe.” Be prepared to be wowed again by her incredible talent. Thanks Talula.
