The Poe Film Festival is not currently accepting pitches or scripts other than through the contest format.

Who we are
The Poe Film Festival, held in Richmond in late autumn, is a weekend celebration of talented college, high school, and independent filmmakers who are inspired by the creativity of the master storyteller, Edgar Allan Poe.

The festival includes three separate film competitions and screenings – one for independent professional filmmakers, one for college students, and one for Virginia public and private high school students.

Professional films are judged by industry filmmakers and Poe literary experts for story structure and quality of production.  During the festival screening event for independent filmmakers, awards are presented for Best Adapted Film, Best Original Film, Best Adapted Short, Best Original Short, and Best Documentary.  For more details about the professional film competition, click on the Pro Film Awards Competition page.

Poe Film Festival is unique in its celebration of college and high school filmmakers as well.  More than 30 mid-Atlantic universities are invited to compete for trophies and cash awards in technical merit, artistic merit, best documentary, best screenplay and grand prize film. The festival features networking receptions and educational discussions led by filmmaking professionals.  For more details about our college and high school competitions, click on our College/High School Events page.

What we do
Poe Film Festival, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, organized and operated exclusively for literary and educational purposes associated with the instruction and development of original works based upon the structural style of Edgar Allan Poe and the public display of such works to a community audience.

How we accomplish this
Thanks to your financial and in-kind support, through this website and during our annual fundraising campaign, Poe Film Festival, Inc. is able to rent theater venues, hold receptions, attract professional talent, and promote networking opportunities between our high school filmmakers, our participating college film students and professors, and independent cinema professionals during our festival in the Fall.

In addition, we encourage alumni of Virginia’s universities to become their school’s singular “College Sponsor,” with a donation to fund that school’s travel and participation in our Red Carpet Awards event. If you wish to be a “College Sponsor,” please click on our Donate Now page for more information.
