The Poe Film Festival is organized and operated exclusively for Literary and Educational purposes associated with the instruction, financial support, and promotion of Virginia regional narrative and documentary film works based upon the structural style of Edgar Allan Poe, and the public display of such works to a community audience.
The Poe Method
We believe that Edgar Allan Poe's story structure, based upon his "Principles of Composition," works perfectly for movie stories. Our judges look for Poe's touch in film submissions -- growing intensity, brevity in scenes and dialogue, and "unity of effect" upon the audience.
Submit your film
Submissions for our professional, independent filmmakers will open on FilmFreeway and Withoutabox on December 1, 2018. College and high school submissions are free through this website. Click on our "Festival Info" page for details and updates.
The Poe Film Festival announces winners of the 2018 College Film Awards for Technical Merit, Artistic Merit, Best Documentary, and Best Screenplay. Micah Ariel Watson of the University of Virginia captured the top prize for best film, "Molasses."
